It's Just Food

As Mamet says in Glengarry Glen Ross, "Great meals all recede upon reflection, but everything else gains." His point is, it's just food. You probably remember the best meal you had, or the second best meal, but think of the tenth. Or think of a specific restaurant. Can you really remember the taste the way you can a scene from a really good movie? Did it affect you the way that the tenth best painting you ever saw did?

I suppose he has a point, but for me, part of the allure of food is the search for the best version. The best hamburger, gnocchi, galbi, whatever.
